An oil and gas discovery in the waters off Tawi-Tawi could soon position Mindanao as the Philippines’ next energy frontier, following the signing of two Petroleum Service Contracts (PSCs) between the Bangsamoro Government and the Department of Energy (DOE).
The contracts, signed on October 8, 2025, at Malacañang Palace, mark the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao’s (BARMM) formal entry into the country’s oil and gas exploration sector — a milestone that could pave the way for future energy production in the region.
